Career Moves - Are You Psychologically Unemployable?

By Matt McDonald

Jobs Vacancy, Employment Jobs, Employment

Have you ever met someone who makes a substantial amount of money in their chosen career, but is totally miserable? I have, many times. ( Most of them were lawyers. Just kidding, I couldn't resist. )

I was this way for many years. I actually made a good living, even lived in the Caribbean for 15 years, all because of the profession that I was in. Now living in the Caribbean was awesome, of course. But I was never really happy in the business that I was in. It took me many years to finally put my finger on the situation, but I finally realized what it was. I had a problem with authority. Let me explain.

I have have been in sales my entire adult life. It's what I chose as my career. There was always a fair amount of autonomy involved. But whenever management came sniffing around, I found it quite irritating. Even though I understand that it's their job to know what's going on. But I never liked them asking me why this prospect or that prospect didn't buy. Which is a strange attitude to have you consider that in most cases, the company was paying for the leads. And had the right to know what was happening with their marketing dollar.

What I finally figured out is that I just don't like having to answer to someone. That the only one that I wanted to answer to was the guy in the mirror. It was quite liberating when I came to this realization. Immature? Maybe. Truthful and real? Without a doubt. And I concluded that I am psychologically unemployable. Which means that to be happy and truly productive, I need to be doing my own thing. It has to be that when I look in the mirror, I am looking at the CEO, President, sales manager and yes, the janitor. And I couldn't be happier.

To do your own thing, you need to find out what makes your tick. What is your passion, your purpose. You might want to take The Passion Test to help you evaluate your situation. Many people have found this test very helpful.

Life is meant to be good, beautiful and fulfilling, not full of unhappiness, stress and remorse. You have unlimited potential, as do we all. It's just a matter of finding that passion, that purpose which will serve as the key to unlock our potential. You might not want to be rich. Guess what?. That's OK. After all, we all know that money can't buy you happiness. Although money will allow you to rent a mountain of it. So go ahead, find your purpose and passion.

We only get to go around once in this life. We might as well spend our time doing that which we enjoy.
