Jobs Vacancy, Job vacancies, Employment

Some people mistakenly think that a surgical technician is only responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical equipment. However, this is a career that offers extremely good pay for the person who has what it takes to be responsible for human lives. If you are serious about being an assistant to an OR surgeon, then you may wish to continue reading.

This is not an easy field of medicine for a person to get accepted in, and requires a 2 year accredited degree program, and passing the Certification Examination of multiple choice questions. Once you complete your schooling and tests, you will qualify to become a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists.

The courses you will have to take are anatomy, and courses that teach extensively detailed medical terminology, along with courses in the specialized sterilization techniques. You will have real experience in hands on training with internships just like a doctor, and will be supervised during your clinical training.

Not only will you be handing surgical instruments to the surgeon during a surgery, you will be the one who is extracting human tissues and making the sutures to close up the incisions. Your job will not end after you have signed off on the OR being completely sterile, you will need a cast iron stomach to keep your wits about you and be completely focused on every detail going on.

You must understand that a patient's life is depending on you having made sure there are no contaminants which can endanger the open incision. Your detailed attention to the cleanliness of all surgical instruments can not be overstated. This is part of the reason this career pursuit has such a high rate of pay. You must be a very responsible person.

This is not the type of job a person can get with a few short months of once a week classes. It requires that you have very specialized training and perseverance along with the dedication it takes to learn and excel at your job duties. You can not have any type of drug related offense on your criminal record.

If you are the type of person who can keep cool under extreme pressure of life threatening conditions, you may be one of the few people who has what it takes to become a certified surgical technician. This career challenge is expected to continue in a hiring boom for qualified personnel for a long time into the future.
