Career Truth, Facts and Obstacles: How to Avoid Downsizing Pay Scales, 3 Tips

Jobs Vacancy, Job vacancies, Employment

The career facts are clear and the truth is in. People are working twice as hard for much less pay. In many of the most stable careers and industries pay scales are dropping quickly because there are cheaper labor markets that are entering your industry and career field. How do you tip the pay scale in your direction and maintain your current rates or advance your pay.

Well here are 3 things you can do to help you maintain and grow the income level that you currently have.

Create Industry Credibility: Establish yourself as an expert in your field right now. It does not matter whether you graduated from college yesterday or have 30 years experience in your industry. There are some protocols to establishing expertise in an industry. Being published is one of those protocols. This can be as simple as writing a 50 page eBook on your career focus that tells clients and customers what to look out for, how to identify or warns them about things in your industry.

Or write articles and eBook that educates managers on what to expect from a newly graduated prospect in your industry. Write about employee expectations, what employers should look for in an expert in your industry or field because being published creates that industry credibility and expert status. Put it for sale on Amazon. Make sure it is good quality information and not slop.

This will set you apart from the pack. Add this to your resume and also you will make some money selling the eBook on Amazon or a web site that address your topic of industry. When you have created this credibility, you will command more or the same money because you have established yourself as a high-end expert.

Skill Set vs. Position: I marvel at how many people still get this incorrectly. Most people are still focusing on the position they had or have. Somehow title rubs our ego the right way, however, skill sets are what employers hire for. The more you have the more your worth and you can demand pay scale stability. However, the problem happens when you only concentrate your position skill sets. Whatever the position is we tend to concentrate on placing only the position skill sets vs. our non position skill sets too.

Remember you are a product and you come with many skill sets. Big corporations are not hiring or are outsourcing more so small business is what will be the big job market. When you are developing your resume put position skill sets and personal skill sets as well. They may come in handy and will later give you the edge up on pay scale.

Consulting: If you are in an industry that is downsizing, outsourcing or pay scales are diminishing you can command money by becoming a consultant in your field fulltime or on the side. If you start this now and add this to your resume, you have diversified you income potential and created stronger credibility and with this kind of credibility you command more money.
