Most people want to know, what will careers and the future workforce be like in 2020? However first, you need a reality check. The question of how will the workforce be different over the next 3 years is more important and will help you identify what you can do to better prepare. In some industries our job markets will not be recovering at all and some careers will vanish.

The causes of this will be technological advances and outsourcing to less expensive markets. Careers that once offered high wages and job security can be demolished in no time by technological advances. Industries like web design grew into a mega industry because of the level of expertise required to design a web. Now however, over the last 5 years web design has become so easy because of software advances. The average person can do it themselves. Simple do it yourself software programs like WordPress.org or even Weebly are making web designer careers an endangered species. Don't let this happen to you.

This is so important to know because as the economy continues to be sluggish, "do it yourself (ers)" and do it yourself software will begin to be the norm. Most people will want to save the cost of hiring out professionals if they can do it themselves.

You really want to focus on industries with some career traction. This is so important to know because you don't want to enter a field and that field be demolished in 5 years and then you have to start all over again hoping to determine what career you can have where the industry will last at least a decade.

Here are 3 careers that will help you get ready for the future workforce and help you maximize opportunity. These career options have traction and are in high demand for the future.

Writers and editors: This will be big in the future as online content is still king. More importantly though is that you can use this skill set to create a business, outsource yourself as a consultant and create your own content producing online products. This is so important because you have developed a skill that can be used in more than just a job or workforce method. This will help you diversify your income structures and allow you options in both the business owner and employee categories.

Software development: This is a big industry now and will be into the future. It is more than just developing new software; it is the ability to improve on current software packages and creating 2.0 and 3.0 web solutions. This will be a visionary field and you can create software and improve software as a living and you too, have diversified your income structures by being able to contract your skills, business own your skill or job market your skills, in several countries.

Diversity leadership and management: The biggest changes in the workforce will be global generations working together. In many industries there will be up to 5 generations working together from boomers to generations 2020. Many will be from different countries and backgrounds. There will be a huge diverse culture. Managing this diversity will be a key industry focus, starting with: diversity education, conflict resolution, and cultural understanding. This will be an international career as well as a consulting career and HR requirement for most large corporations that have global workforces.

The future is full of possibilities and you can take advantage of them. Just make sure you have chosen a career that is fun and promising.
