Home Business As Income Diversification

By Matt McDonald

Jobs Vacancy, Job vacancies, Employment Jobs

In this day and age income diversification is key to our financial well being. Being a one trick pony is a dangerous and risky proposition at any time, but especially in the current economic climate. It would be very wise of us to look at various ways of creating income. I'll tell you this, I would much rather be in the sales profession today, rather than be an MBA holder with nowhere to turn. In good times I'd rather be in sales, more so in times like now when the economy takes a brutal and nasty turn for the worse. Having said the above, make sure that you are selling a product or service that offers real value in the marketplace of today. A good starting place would be any product or service that will save folks money and help them trim the family budget. For many people, saving $100-$200.00 per month on something that is a must have, such as Internet service, would be a huge boost to their personal economy.

When talking about the subject of income diversification, I am not talking about getting a part time or second job. I do not believe that is the best, proper or intelligent use of your time, skills, talents or resources. A much better choice would be to start some type of business. This will allow you to build equity in something that you own, rather than just trading your time for a few dollars. Since you would be investing your time and effort building equity for you and your family, I feel that this is a much better use of the aforementioned time, skills, talents and resources.

There are an incredible amount of opportunities available to us in the marketplace today. We should really consider ourselves quite fortunate to have so many options open to us. Another advantage and benefit to starting your own business is that not only will be selling a product or service to create income for yourself and your family, but you will also be buying products and services for operating your business. Whether it's a new computer, book keeping software or office supplies, you'll be spending money, thereby helping to create jobs and spur on the economy. You might not not even have any employees yourself, but by buying what you need for your business, you'll be helping to maintain or create jobs in the manufacturing, supplier and distribution levels of the economy.

So, what kind of opportunities are we talking about? Just Google " business opportunities " and do some homework. Find something that you would enjoy doing. A good example is a company that I stumbled upon the other day. The company is called Dillon Road and they make custom shirts. Being someone who can appreciate a good fitting shirt, I checked out their website. Turns out that the only way that you can buy shirts from them is to be invited by a Roadie, as they call their haberdashers. You could work this part time in the evenings, do some measurements and Voila'! Get paid for it. How hard is that? Pretty cool gig, if you ask me. Say you could make $500.00-$1000.00 a month at it, would that be a boost to your personal economy? And no, I'm not being paid to recruit for them. I just think it's a cool way to make a living.

As always, another option is to start a network marketing business. Regardless of your attitude is toward this type of business hybrid, one thing is absolutely certain. In the next 10-20 years there will be more millionaires created in network marketing and direct sales than in any other industry.Unfortunately, some people just don't get it. I look at these things from strictly a business point of view. Direct sales and network marketing are only alternate distribution methods as opposed to a normal retail sales channel. And motivating a sales force with payment. Very simple. That is all. Also unfortunately, many people who try the industry are misled as to the income potential, mostly in the sense of how rapidly income can be created. Yes, the industry can create extraordinary income, but it takes time, effort and personal and growth development. If the most money you've ever made is 60K a year, you will not make 500K per year within 12-24 months in direct sales. Why? Because it's psychologically impossible. It's beyond your skill level, both professionally and mentally. You have to build up to it.You have to take baby steps in the beginning. Once you make 80K, now you know how that feels and now you can realistically see making 100K And so on.The other thing that it takes is hard work. Very hard work. Consistently. As in everyday. This applies whether you start a direct sales-network marketing business or you want to sell custom shirts.

Make sure that whatever you do, you go into your venture with eyes wide open. And realistic expectations. You can build your empire from there.

To your success.
