Are you considering a career in the medical field? Many say that its something that need to be a calling and not just another job. In many ways this is true because it can be a very demanding and very challenging. It does not suite every type of personality and unless you have the tenacity, the care and the passion it will probably get to you after a while.

In saying that, there are so many new fields in medicine and each and every one demands a different set of skills and personality. Becoming a doctor has its obvious challenges. It takes years of long and hard study to become a doctor and once you are qualified it really is a demanding job. Having other people's lives in your hands is a huge responsibility and without a sincere desire to help people you will probably hate the job.

Medical assistant jobs require a lot less skill and for many of them you can get qualified in or or two years. The great advantage is that these jobs don't have that massive responsibility that doctors and physicians have. You will probably need a lot more people skills as you will deal a lot with patients on a personal level. Nurses and assistants tends to see the side of medicine that doctors prefer to stay away from. You need a patient and caring personality and above all you need to love your job.

Regardless of the field you choose to go into, you need to get really clear on what the job will be all about. Talk to people who are already doing the job. See if you can find a temporary placement and do the job for a day. Finally, don't let money be the main driving force behind your decision. Let your heart guide you.
